All these Eastern cities are towering grey and red brick jumbles of ancient crumbling hotels and warehouses. The architecture is beautiful but dingy, there is rich history here, but enthusiasm seems lost. Everything is lovely and hopeless at the same time. I guess it doesn't help that there has been a lightning storm every day we have been on the road, and the skies are heavy with clouds.
We watched the Evil Dead last night: what a disgusting movie! The rain was coming down and thunder crashing the whole time we watched it. This trip has really given me a feeling of both freedom and confusion. Well, not quite confusion, just an appreciation for a certain amount of stability in life; enough routine to aid personal discipline. At the same time, everything is so beautiful and unfettered. I have no worries, few possessions, and my experience broadens daily. There is definitely a time in life when being a rover is appropriate.
